Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a clear understanding of each facet of the design process including: user experience, interaction design, research and usability, motion design, and brand integration. Ideal candidates will be eager to work with a dynamic team of like-minded individuals to support our creative needs and drive our products forward.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Create high quality, compelling marketing/promotional materials in a variety of media including: landing pages, web banners, emails, print, social media and mobile - all while upholding brand standards.
  • Create high quality designs to support stories and videos on the website, newsletters and other products.
  • Participate in project teams from concept through production.
  • Generate unique creative and visual solutions that achieve marketing goals in a constantly changing competitive landscape.
  • Work with UX designers to ensure the visual design enhances the overall user experience.
  • Collaborate with brand designers to ensure the visual design aligns to the brand strategy.
  • Deliver visual assets to development counterparts on time and with quality.
  • Communicate, defend, and build consensus around visuals and design direction.
  • Effectively communicate with developers through implementation to realize design vision.
  • Work with user researchers to coordinate testing efforts, interpret test results, and incorporate results into design efforts.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), HTML and PowerPoint
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage work independently to adhere to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a strong portfolio featuring examples of online design work
  • BA/BS degree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Interface Design, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience designing products and promotional material in a visual or graphic design capacity.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with user scenarios, task flows, conceptual models, and usability testing.
  • Experience in delivering quality production assets to engineering counterparts on time.
  • Good interpersonal skills; effective team player.
  • Media Industry experience preferred.    

Senior Producer/Director of Video

Producer Position Overview:

Al-Monitor is looking for an experienced video/tv producer to build and produce comprehensive original video programming that complements our award-winning coverage of the politics, people and the culture across the Middle East. This is an exciting role, and the successful candidate will work hand-in-hand with editors across the region and be responsible for conceiving and executing dynamic video content. Additionally, the role includes producing a daily and weekly program with our partner, RealClearPolitics.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  The Producer will be responsible for overseeing Al-Monitor’s new video programming, which will include shows produced in Washington, DC and across the Middle East with our correspondents and partners. Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop daily programming of multiple online shows of varying lengths to be displayed on our site via JWPlayer. 
  • Produce original video and assisting with video production and editing to create consistent execution and quality.
  • Provide direction and feedback to correspondents.
  • Deliver finished videos in English for publication on JWPlayer.
  • Participate in project teams from concept through production.
  • Communicate, defend, and build consensus around story ideas.
  • Maintain high degree of industry knowledge re digital video production and distribution.
  • Perform other duties as required. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • At least 5 years of experience producing online video content at a major news network or OTT as well as a proven track record of digital video growth.   
  • Must have expert level experience with all aspects of digital video production including, producing, shooting, editing and lighting. Excellent news gathering abilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online production and storytelling, and online publishing systems and technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of current political and cultural issues in the US & the Middle East.
  • Proficient in English language and proven grammar and editing skills. 
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills and work well under deadline pressure Outstanding online portfolio of prior work. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to strike a balance between showing initiative and seeking appropriate guidance and input from others.   
  • Ability to prioritize work load and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Recruit new writers from across the region who can bring compelling stories to our readers.

As the Iranian Media Review Contributor:

  • You will meticulously review Iranian media on a daily basis to inform yourself of the latest social, political and economic developments, and the commentary and debates these developments generate in the Iranian press.
  • You will provide to the Iran Pulse Editor an overview of the most pertinent debates and reactions in the Iranian press to social, cultural, political and economic developments and use your media knowledge to gather and analyze news and commentary to produce daily posts on what is being debated and covered in the Iranian media.
  • You will independently work from a distance with the Iran Pulse Editor and the team in Washington DC to prepare and submit pitches on a daily basis, and to upload 500-word articles on the Iranian press three to four times a week.
  • You will develop relationships with those around you to make sure that everything gets done on time, and in a manner which is unique in the current media landscape. This includes working closely with the Iran Pulse Editor and the Washington DC office, but also developing relationships and contacts with Iran watchers, Iranian journalists and Iranian media outlets.

Who You Are:

  • You are fully fluent in both spoken and written English and Persian.
  • You have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, preferably with a concentration in political science, international relations, economics or media studies. You should also have a strong academic and professional background related to Middle Eastern Studies.  You have been working on Iran-related assignments for 1+ years.
  • You are a self-starter and extremely self-disciplined with a strong work ethic; under pressure, you can deliver high quality work within tight deadlines. (Maybe you even function best under pressure, which particularly works for us.)
  • You are good with words. You can quickly review a large volume of articles and single out for analysis the debates of the day --- and especially debates which matter to our readers.
  • You like the idea of working from a distance from anywhere on the globe, and with an international team with offices and contributors around the world.
  • You’re active in the kinds of fields that are shaping the debate and coverage of Iran. You have a passion for Middle Eastern affairs, and particularly Iran, and especially the politics, economy, social developments and culture of the region.
  • You think critically, analyze everything and look for unconventional solutions to problems. You like to speak up with new ideas, and help carry out the smart ideas of others. You know how (or are eager to learn how) to utilize media research.
  • You have a strong social media presence, and will use that social media presence to bring your coverage of the debates in the Iranian press to the attention of our readers, and also to identify the latest developments.
